Els began her quilting journey in Windhoek in the early 1980s, using whatever fabrics were available—satins, polycottons, curtaining, and
upholstery samples—long before quality quilting cottons were easy to find.
She learned a wide range of techniques through books, magazines, and a lively quilting group that encouraged creativity and experimentation.
In recent years, Els has focused on scrap quilting and using orphan blocks, creating meaningful quilts for charity projects. She also has a passion for fabric journals, where she records ideas, techniques, and special memories.
Her style is thoughtful and resourceful, and students can expect to be inspired to see value and beauty in every scrap of fabric.
