President's Welcome 2009
Hallo and welcome to the Good Hope Quilters Guild website. I hope that you find the information useful and if you have any comments or news that you wish to have put on the website, please don’t hesitate to contact me, Simmy Schofield or Karen Nicole. I am extremely fortunate to have a dedicated committee who are constantly thinking of ways to enthuse the quilters of the Western Cape with workshops, exhibitions and festivals. Their names and details are at a click of the “CONTACTS” button on this home page and remember that we are here for YOU. Good Hope Quilters' Guild was founded in 1987 and now has more than 260 members. We meet four times a year at Northlink College ( about 15 minutes north of Cape Town City Centre) and it is a day of being inspired, meeting quilting friends, learning new techniques and keeping up to date with what’s happening in the global quilting world. Come and join us on the 7th November - watch this space for the days' programme and the latest info on our FESTIVAL in 2011. Thank-you to the eight local teachers on 8th August for their day of LEARNING. The theme was QUILTING AND SURFACE EMBELLISHMENT - we were inspired by their demonstrations in their “specialist” techniques. Pictures of winning quilts at FYNBOS in October will be here soon. Fynbos Quilt-InEvery second year we hold a retreat where you can expand your quilting horizons - attend classes, workshops and spend time away with friends. We held the latest Fynbos in Riebeek Kasteel in October 2009, and due the change to the Festival year to 2011, the next retreat will be 1-3 October 2010. Pathways to the Stars This quilt was designed by Marié du Toit and was presented in parts at recent quarterly Guild meetings.
